As 2015 comes to a close, you may be searching for a tax-advantaged way to support worthy causes within our community. Because gifts made through the Community Foundation can be tailored to address both your financial situation and your charitable goals, we can offer a wide range of solutions for year-end giving.
It is surprisingly easy to establish a fund at the Community Foundation. Contributions made to your new fund before December 31 allow you to take the maximum tax-deduction permitted by law on your 2015 tax return. With a Donor Advised Fund, you have the flexibility to recommend the charities or causes you support and to take an active role in how current charitable gifts are distributed in the community from your fund both now and in the future. Also, with a Donor Advised Fund, you have the flexibility to continue to make those recommendations next year and for decades to come. As your philanthropic partner, we can help you identify or affirm your charitable values, engage family members in philanthropy, maximize tax advantages, and assist you in recommending grants that reflect your interests.
We can accept a wide range of charitable gifts. The following are just a few you might consider.
Gifts of cash are an easy and convenient way to make a charitable contribution. To donate by credit card, use the Donate button above.
When you donate appreciated securities, the IRS allows a charitable tax deduction based on the full fair-market value of your gift if you have held the stock for more than twelve months. In this way, you also avoid capital gains tax on the appreciated portion of the gift.
You can include your favorite charities in your estate plan by creating a Designated Fund at the Community Foundation with a deferred gift, including a bequest to us in your will, or naming us as a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets or life insurance policy.
Our objective is to work with you and your advisors to determine the charitable options that are right for you. To discuss the solution that would be best for you, please call us at 256.535.2065 or e-mail stuart@communityfoundationhsv.org.
