HUNTSVILLE, Alabama, September 10, 2020 – The eleventh annual Summit on Philanthropy held on Thursday September 10th through a virtual gala experience to celebrate and inspire local generosity, including honoring two recipients with the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville’s Community Philanthropy Awards. These awards are presented annually to honor families and companies who exemplify the spirit of generosity in our community.
This year, Rey and Cynthia Almodóvar received the Family Community Philanthropy Award to thank them for their philanthropic support of charitable organizations, local schools, STEM education, and young professionals to improve quality of life in the Greater Huntsville community. Their generosity includes philanthropic partnerships with Huntsville Museum of Art, Huntsville Botanical Garden, Kids To Love, Alabama Constitution Village, and Red Cross.
Google Fiber was awarded the Corporate Community Philanthropy Award to recognize their philanthropic efforts in our community, and to spotlight ongoing investment in much-needed Digital Inclusion work. Since 2018, Google Fiber has partnered with the Community Foundation to award high-impact grants to 18 nonprofit organizations in greater Huntsville to support and enhance digital access for underserved residents.

Each year, the annual Summit on Philanthropy highlights the belief that together we can accomplish more than any one person, one company, or one organization can accomplish on their own. This year, the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville utilized their virtual gala to share the inspirational stories of how our community has come together during this unprecedented time. Our community’s strength throughout this challenging year was demonstrated through incredible acts of generosity that brought us together to support this community in its time of need.
