While The Spencer Companies was sold in 2021, their charitable legacy of this business lives on. In a time when environmental preservation is more crucial than ever, the Spencer Companies Charitable Fund has stepped forward to support the Land Trust of North Alabama in their efforts to protect and conserve the natural beauty of Huntsville and its surrounding areas. With a generous grant from the fund, the Land Trust is able to continue its mission of preservation, education, and recreation for the benefit of the community. Sarah Chappell, Vice President of Spencer Companies, recognizes the significance of this work and has taken a personal interest in furthering the cause.
As a native of Huntsville, Sarah Chappell has always been aware of the Land Trust’s remarkable work in the community. She shares, “As a native Huntsvillian, I have always known of the great work of the Land Trust in the areas of preservation, education and recreation but I am not necessarily one of the 200,000 avid trail users. I am, however, someone who enjoys being surrounded by our beautiful mountains and green spaces. With unprecedented growth in North Alabama, it is more critical than ever that we educate our community on how the work of the Land Trust affects us all!”
While she may not be an avid trail user, Chappell cherishes the natural landscapes that surround her. With the rapid growth witnessed in North Alabama, she recognizes the increased importance of educating the community about the impact of the Land Trust’s efforts on all residents. Following the grant from Spencer Companies Charitable Fund and motivated by her love for the region and the belief in the Land Trust’s mission, Chappell has volunteered to chair the committee responsible for raising funds for a Nature Discovery Center. This new facility to be built by the Land Trust, will serve as a hub for environmental education, offering interactive exhibits, classrooms, and engaging programs for people of all ages. Chappell’s dedication to this cause exemplifies how a company’s culture of giving can make a profound impact on their community and inspire personal involvement and philanthropy.
