HUNTSVILLE, Alabama, November 18, 2020 –The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville, in partnership with The Schools Foundation and the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, established the Remote Learning Supervision Fund to support K-12 public school students from the Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County School Districts in need of supervision to support remote learning due to school closures in the 2020-2021 school year. The Community Foundation recognizes with gratitude Junior League of Huntsville, Raytheon, and Toyota Alabama, Founding Donors whose gifts helped launch the Remote Learning Supervision Fund.
“When COVID impacted the ability of our schools to reopen safely, the Community Foundation acted quickly to help us get a fund together to cover remote learning supervision for parents who needed to be at work but didn’t have childcare. With generous donations from The Junior League, Toyota, Raytheon, and other donors, the fund showed just how responsive the Community Foundation is for the people in Huntsville/Madison County,” says Lucia Cape, Senior Vice President of Economic Development, Huntsville/Madison County Chamber.
The Remote Learning Supervision Fund provided grant funding totaling $53,693.67 to five nonprofit organizations supporting K-12 public school students participating in remote learning during the standard school day through extended day/afterschool hours through the current COVID-19 situation.
2020 grantees include:
- Boys & Girls Club of North Alabama
- Girls, Inc.
- Heart of the Valley YMCA
- Huntsville Inner City Learning Center
- The CornerStone Initiative
