Karen Stanley’s family has deep roots in the Huntsville community. Stanley Construction Company, which has received national, state, and local acclaim, has operated in North Alabama since 1961. Karen currently serves at the Vice-President of Finance and Marketing, and her father Thornton Stanley was awarded the U.S. Small Business Administration National Small Business Person of the Year in 2001 from then President George W. Bush. These commitments to community and excellence that her family’s business exemplify are hallmarks of Karen’s life as well.
Fostering growth is a priority in Karen’s personal giving priorities. Her commitment to church, education, and social enterprise reflects the values she holds dear. Through her support of these causes, Karen aims to make a positive and lasting change within her community. She recognizes the role that education plays as a great equalizer, empowering individuals to reach their full potential. By directing her philanthropy towards scholarship funds and youth development, Karen ensures that young people have access to the opportunities they deserve. Additionally, her dedication to social enterprise highlights her belief in the value of supporting change and sustainable solutions for societal challenges. These philanthropic desires have been met through Karen’s support of many of the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville’s giving initiatives including Compass Society, Racial Equity Fund, and Women’s Philanthropy Society in addition to various other giving, volunteering, and leadership efforts.
When asked about the difference she hopes to make in the community, Karen’s answer epitomizes her character as a servant leader saying she wishes to “lift others as I climb, bringing people together from diverse backgrounds and walks of life. I love giving encouragement, advice, hope, and inspiration, because these are gifts that keep on giving, for they empower people to believe in themselves and advance their own missions.” Karen believes in the importance of unity and collaboration in building a strong and vibrant community. By actively promoting inclusivity and seeking common ground, she inspires others to join her in creating positive change.
