Huntsville, AL – Crestwood Medical Center and the Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County are happy to announce that eight local nonprofit organizations in the Huntsville area will receive grants distributed from the Crestwood Women & Families Fund in 2015.
The mission of the Crestwood Women & Families Fund is to establish a grant-making fund for high-impact grants to address the issues and meet immediate needs of women and families in our community. The fund is managed by the Community Foundation.
Crestwood employees, volunteers and individuals within the local community contributed approximately $20,000 to replenish the fund prior to 2015 distributions. Not-for-profit organizations in the community who serve women and families were invited to apply for grant funding by following a formal process. An Advisory Committee consisting of members of the Crestwood Women’s Advisory Council, Crestwood Medical Center employees, and volunteers met to review applications and recommended grants to selected organizations. The Advisory Committee elected to donate the entire balance raised over the past year to a select group of organizations who applied.
The following organizations received $2500 each to fund their programs:
1. Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Alabama: Fit and Active Initiative – program to encourage matches to participate in physical fitness activities which will lead to overall better health.
2. CASA (Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound) of Madison County: Hearing Aid and Assistance Device Program to assist female senior clients in the Madison County area who have been identified with hearing problems.
3. Hospice of Marshall County: Camp Hope – designed to help children have fun on purpose following the death of a loved one, including activities focused on dealing with grief and loss.
4. Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP): Emergency Utility or Rent Shortage Assistance and Food Pantry – assisting at least families within Madison County who have hit a “bump in the road” and are at risk of becoming homeless.
5. Inside Out Ministries (IOM): Emergency Assistance for Single Women and Single Mothers – provides food, shelter, vision/dental care along with job and budget counseling to ease immediate burdens and provide longer term solutions.
6. Kid One Transport System, Inc.: Transportation for children or expectant mothers who do not have access to reliable transportation to needed medical care.
7. Kids to Love Foundation: Kids to Love Center – facilitate higher graduation rates for children living in foster care and provide training necessary to help them attain the necessary skills needed to become self-sufficient and handle the challenges of adulthood.
8. The New Hope Children’s Clinic (NHCC): Increased Access to Medical Care for Local Children – provides medical, dental, vision, and mental health care for children with no insurance or limited access to routine medical treatment. Grant will fund a vaccination program for children in the New Hope community.
