Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama and Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville Announce New Partnership for Endowed Scholarship Fund

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama (BGCNAL) announce a new partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville (CFGH) to launch an endowed scholarship fund of $650,000 to support the higher education dreams of local students.

The Boys & Girls Clubs provide a safe, fun, and challenging environment where kids learn to love, grow, and lead through impactful programs which take place between school hours and time at home. Since 1938, caring and trained staff guide and inspire local disadvantaged youth to instill the confidence and character they need to succeed with specialized programs including STEM, art, sports, budgeting, academics, and career prep that help prepare youth with real skills for the real world. With an ongoing commitment to build great futures, Boys & Girls Clubs partner with people and organizations who understand that building a better community begins with providing our youth with a quality education.

Patrick Wynn, President/CPO of BGCNAL says, “Boys & Girls Clubs are proud of our track record in helping young people achieve academic success as 97% of our alumni graduate high school. In addition to our afterschool programs which lead to higher academic scores, diplomas, and scholarships, we are now thrilled to announce a new avenue of support for our students beyond the scope of what we have been able to offer before. Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors who saw additional needs in the area of education for local youth, we are launching a $650,000 Boys & Girls Clubs Endowed Scholarship Fund to support the dreams of higher education for many of our students. We are grateful for this investment in our teens’ futures and the many doors it will open to them in the future.”

The endowed scholarship donation will be managed by the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville, a nonprofit with a mission to mobilize generosity to improve quality of life in our community. Melissa Thompson, President/CEO of the Community Foundation shares, “At the Community Foundation, we have a front row seat to witness the incredible work of local nonprofits like Boys & Girls Clubs, and the incredible generosity of donors who come alongside them to support their work. Bringing together donors who care with causes that matter makes our community stronger, and an endowment is a strategic and sustainable way to ensure that Boys & Girls Clubs will have a reliable stream of scholarship funds available each year while allowing the growth of the fund’s assets to create even more scholarship income in the years ahead. This is a significant commitment by Boys & Girls Clubs donors to provide a permanent pool of scholarship funds for students from our area, and will enhance many bright futures in the years ahead.”

This collaborative effort demonstrates how nonprofits can work together to enhance the generosity of donors and boost the impact on the greater community. “There is no greater investment in the future of our children and in the future of our economy than an investment in education. I am proud of how our nonprofits continue to work together to provide greater opportunity for students and a path toward better health, employment and empowerment,” says City of Huntsville Mayor, Tommy Battle.
