HUNTSVILLE, Alabama, August 28, 2019 – The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa Thompson as Chief Executive Officer and President of the Community Foundation.
Thompson has most recently served as the Community Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), responsible for the Foundation’s community operations and leading strategies to achieve its charitable vision. She joined the Community Foundation in 2011 serving more than six years as the Vice-President of Operations, creating sustainable and effective organizational procedures to enhance philanthropic efforts across the area.
Chris Russell, Chair of the Community Foundation Board, says of Thompson’s appointment, “Melissa Thompson’s passion for this community has been and will continue to be a great benefit to our region and the Foundation. I look forward to seeing the impact her leadership will have to our organization, the local nonprofit network, and to donors and residents of our community.”

The Community Foundation will soon celebrate its tenth anniversary serving the Greater Huntsville region at the annual Summit on Philanthropy event on September 10, 2019. The event will serve as a platform for Thompson to share her vision for the Community Foundation’s role in addressing the region’s most pressing problems and philanthropy’s role in making a positive difference for all who live here.
